Debt extract (Betreibungsauszug).

Betreibungsauszug · Extrait du registre des poursuites · Estratto del registro esecuzioni

Official 5-year debt-collection record. The single most important document on every Swiss rental application.

The Betreibungsauszug (debt extract) is an official certificate from the cantonal debt-collection office. It lists every debt-collection proceeding, seizure, and bankruptcy registered against you in the last five years. Swiss landlords ask for it on almost every rental application. A clean extract is often the basic requirement; an extract with open items can end an application.

Freshness matters: many landlords accept only extracts less than 90 days old. On aptari you upload it once into your Tenant Passport, and aptari reminds you when it is getting too old.

Where to order: from your municipality's debt-collection office, online or in person. Cost: around CHF 17, up to CHF 25 depending on the canton. Processing time: 1-3 business days. Major cities: Stadt Zürich (betreibungsamt.stadt-zuerich.ch), Stadt Bern, Stadt Genf, Stadt Basel.

After moving: after relocating to a new municipality, it is smart to request a fresh extract from your new local office. Some landlords check whether the address matches your current one.
