What it is
The Betreibungsauszug is an official extract from the cantonal Betreibungsamt (debt-collection office) showing whether anyone has filed debt-collection proceedings against you. Swiss landlords use it as one of the four core trust signals (worth up to 10 points on the Match Score).
How to order
Online (fastest) - betreibungsschalter.ch (most cantons participate) - Login with SwissID or upload ID - Pay CHF 17 via Postfinance/credit card - PDF downloaded within minutes
In person - Visit the Betreibungsamt of your residence canton - Show your ID - Pay CHF 17 cash or card - Same-day issue
By mail - Send written request (your name, address, DOB, signature) + ID copy - Pay CHF 17 by invoice or include payment slip - 5-10 working days
What it shows
- Open debt-collection proceedings against you
- Closed proceedings within the last 5 years
- "Sauber" / "nicht enthalten" if you're clean
Validity period
- 3 months from issue date
- Landlords reject older copies · don't request too early in your search
New residents
- If you've been in Switzerland <6 months, the extract will simply show "no entries" (clean)
- Landlords accept this · combine with a Schufa (Germany) or equivalent from your previous country as a stronger signal
What to do if it's NOT clean
- Apply to landlords who only require a clean current Betreibungsauszug (most do)
- Show proof of paid-off debts
- Provide additional financial reserves
- Use a co-signer (Solidarbürge)
Keep it in your aptari Tenant Passport
Once you have the extract, upload it to your aptari Tenant Passport alongside your ID, salary slip and references. aptari then reuses it for every application, so you never re-send the same document to a new agency. Browse listings from across the market in one open feed and apply with one click.
