Index-linked rent (Indexmiete).

Indexmiete · Loyer indexé · Pigione indicizzata

Rent linked to the Swiss Consumer Price Index (CPI).

An Indexmiete (index-linked rent) is tied to the Swiss Consumer Price Index (CPI). Prerequisite: the lease must have a minimum term of 5 years and during that time can be terminated only by the landlord, not by you.

Adjustment: usually once a year. The landlord notifies the new rent at least 30 days before the next rent period begins, on an official form. The increase must be proportional to how the index has moved.

Pros and cons: in periods of low inflation the rent stays nearly stable. During inflation it can rise faster than a classic lease.

Contesting it: you can't contest an index increase on substance, only on whether the calculation is correct.
