Personal liability insurance.

Privathaftpflichtversicherung · Assurance RC privée · Assicurazione RC privata

Insurance against damage you cause in rented apartments. Usually required by landlords.

Personal liability insurance (Privathaftpflichtversicherung) covers damage you accidentally cause to third parties or rented property. Standard coverage: CHF 5 million from CHF 10-20/month.

Why landlords require it: a water leak, fire damage or a broken window. Without PHV you're personally liable. Most Swiss leases require proof of active PHV.

What to look for: - Minimum coverage CHF 5 million for personal injury - Includes "damage to rented housing" (not all policies) - Includes gross negligence (often surcharge)

Providers: Zurich, Allianz, AXA, Helvetia, Generali, Mobiliar, CSS.
